Player Ratings as Arsenal smash AC Milan

Never in doubt…

For once we didn’t have our hearts in our mouths watching Arsenal trying to defend a lead. It was a little scary when Milan scored the first goal, but the response to that was quick and decisive. We never really looked like we were going to collapse at any point.

Here’s the ratings…

Ospina…

7/10 – I feel blaming him for the first goal is a bit harsh. It was a great unexpected strike, but even if it was his fault, he acquitted himself nicely with a couple of great reflex saves.

Bellerin…

8/10 – Has he been playing hurt in the past, because this looks more like the Bellerin we all know and love. Sharp all night

Koscielny…

N/R – Limped off early in the game with an injury. Sad to see him suffer like this as his career peters out due to a recurrent Achilles problem.

Mustafi…

8/10 – Had some shaky moments early on but improved as the game went on. He should try starting well every now and again. that would do wonders for his confidence.

Monreal…

7/10 – Quietly solid as he makes his recovery from a back strain that has dogged him for some weeks now.

Xhaka…

8.5/10 – I would gladly take ack all my negative comments about Xhaka if he continues to play like this. More solid defensively than I have ever seen him. Made great recovery runs to snuff out dangerous attacks. Be like this all the time dear Xhaka. Nice powerful shot to beat a great goal keeper from distance.

Ramsey…

7/10 – He did his part but wasn’t at his influential best. Got an assist for Xhaka’s goal

Wilshere…

8/10 –  Worked hard, defended when he had to, linked up well, and troubled Donnarumma with some really decent shots on goal. Solid.

Mkhitaryan…

7/10 – Mkhi was decent.

Ozil…

7/10 – Solid if unspectacular performance. Grew into the game with time. Looked very unhappy when he came off as he did in the 1st game at Milan.

Welbeck…

8.5/10 – Scored two goals!!! Looked very sharp all night. Dived like a true English man to win a penalty that led to our first goal.

Subs…

Chambers…

7/10 – Came in for the injured Koscielny and had a solid defensive display.

Elneny…

8/10 – Actually not on for long but made such an impact that he deserves a good rating. Defended very well, and made some very sweet passes. One of them was the pre pre-assist to the third goal.

Kolasinac…

N/R –  Not on long enough to rate.

Player Ratings – Oestersunds vs Arsenal

David Ospina…

8.5 – Didn’t actually have much to do, but he saved a penalty in the dying minutes to ensure that Arsenal keep a clean sheet. The first in a really long while.

Hector Bellerin…

6.5 – Conceded the penalty in question, and since he wasn’t particularly outsatnding, that moment will be the most striking aspect of his performance tonight.

Shkodran Mustafi…

6.5 – Looked shaky for me. Made two challenges in the box that could have easily been awarded as penalties on another day.

Calum Chambers…

7.0 – Not much to say about him. Readers must be wondering why i’m being so hard on a defence that kept a clean sheet. The clean sheet wasn’t really about them though as much as it was about our opponents not being too sharp attack wise.

Nacho Monreal…

7.0 – Scored and was as reliable as ever. Came off for Kolasinac later on.

Mohammed Elneny…

7.5 – Another solid performance in midfield.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles…

8.0 – I have been absolutely clamouring for his first start in midfield and he got it today. He also did not fail to impress, winning the ball well, and always being where he was needed. Skillful, with good ball retention and passing ability as well. Needs a run of games there now at Xhaka’s expense.

Alex Iwobi…

6.5 – Was on the field.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan…

7.0 – Contributed offensively with the cross that led to the own goal, and worked hard all game.

Mesut Ozil…

8.0 – Took his chance well when it presented itself. Was involved through out.

Danny Welbeck…

5.5 – Did not get involved. Looked fatigued even though he has not played much this season, but perhaps it was match rust from not having played much this season.
