Arsenal cruised past Aston Villa on Saturday recording their first clean sheet of the season in the process. The game ended 3-0.
Danny Welbeck opened his Arsenal account with the second goal of the game after a lovely assist from Ozil.
Ozil was of course merely returning the favour, as Welbeck had set him up to score the first goal of the game a minute earlier. Yes, a minute earlier.
In fact, we went on to score a third goal just a minute later.
Yes, a minute later to go three nil up in the space of three minutes. Aly Cissokho scored an own goal after Gibbs fizzed a low cross into the box and the Villa defender failed to control his attempted clearance.
The second half was without a goal, but we controlled it and Ozil ran the show of course earning himself a Man of the match award.
A point to note is that this was Ozil’s best performance of the season so far and that it came at his preferred number 10 position is everything but a coincidence.
I hope Wenger has learnt something from this game and hopefully, we will see more of this formation as the season goes on.
We face Southampton on Tuesday to kick off our capital one cup campaign for the season. We might see the likes of Diaby, Bellerin, Akpom, Sanogo, and hopefully Joel Campbell in that game.
Our lack of defensive options will mean that at least one of Mertesacker or Koscielny continues at the back or perhaps both.
I think this Aston Villa game was the first we played this season without an injury or a sending off during the ninety minutes. Let’s continue in similar fashion on Tuesday.
